Audrey had a few firsts this weekend that I wanted to remember. We took the girls to the zoo on Saturday and that was Audrey's first trip to the zoo. When we got there Emily announced that she wanted cotton candy. That wasn't very surprising, she takes after me and my love of cotton candy. While we were getting her cotton candy, Jeremy bought a churro for himself. Emily snatched it from his hands, gobbled it up and then asked him to open her cotton candy. As she was stuffing the cotton candy in her mouth she announced, "Where's the ice cream??" This is when Jeremy and I looked at each other and said, "I guess we should have saved some money and just taken her to the food court at the mall. Luckily, that was her last request for food and the rest of the day was spent looking at animals. I guess she had her priorities. Audrey sat in her stroller and didn't make a peep the whole time. She squirmed a bit when we took her to the monkeys. Jeremy is very proud of her for having such a reaction because he hates monkeys, BOO. Audrey's favorite animal was the elephant. She began giggling and pointing and talking like that chick from The Fifth Element. This was huge because, I don't know if I've mentioned this before but, Audrey doesn't do a whole lot to communicate with us. She's big on observing but not on babbling. Of course she has her own way of interacting with us, but the display over the elephants was over the top for her and funny to see.
Before we left for the zoo I had packed a bunch of snacks that I knew Audrey could eat with her four teeth and then I left them on the kitchen counter to rot. Audrey basically ate a soft pretzel and water/juice for the day. I'm such a great mom. By the time we got home and settled for the evening she didn't eat much dinner and was pretty tired. I'm not sure if it was lack of sleep or lack of food but Audrey had another first in store for me. Her first night waking since she was 6 weeks old, YAY! At first I went to her and gave her back her binky and she went back to sleep but an hour later (2 a.m.) she obviously needed a bottle and, while I was at it, a diaper change. After draining her bottle she was back to sleep but I sat in bed wide awake. I'm getting far enough into the pregnancy to find a comfortable position to sleep in and once I'm awake it takes forever to get back to sleep. When I finally did fall asleep, I dreamt about not being able to fall asleep. NOT KIDDING.
Enough about me and my sleeping habits. I saved the best FIRST for last. Audrey took a few unassisted steps this evening a few times. She would get so excited and silly that she would fall on her bum and laugh for long periods of time before starting all over again. This event is actually a first for Jeremy and I also, as Emily learned to walk in a completely different way and a year later than Audrey is learning now. We all had a good laugh with Audrey and her attempts at walking. I'm not sure how long to expect these little bursts before full fledged walking but I'm not in any rush.
